Mormons, Housemates, and Vintage Clothing

Last night our house mate's friend, Nathan, invited us to a potluck with him and a few other friends.  The potluck was hosted by a Mormon congregation and was a great experience meeting with such polite and welcoming people.  Plus the free food didn't hurt at all *sigh* what I wouldn't do for an Oreo.  As the dinner progressed our housemate, Michael, and his friend Sean began performing some of their Capoeira moves which was an intriguing display of back flips and twists. Before we left we received an invitation to visit their church on Sunday which we just might take them up on as I've always wanted to see what they're about. I think it would be a great opportunity to learn something new.

The next day aka today I started out on a run but less than a mile into it I tripped and skinned my palms and one of my knees. It might just be me but when I fall down I tend to just lay there, things look so different from the ground.  I still would have laughed along with the people in the cars going by if I could have seen it but by the end of 2 miles it was dripping and gross so I went home, and no there is no picture of that for your enjoyment.

Visited some vintage shops on 12th Ave including 'Local Honey' and 'Serendipity'.  Didn't get anything, guess vintage just isn't my style (or price range haha).  But it was an interesting trip and as I looked through the racks I couldn't believe how much fashion has changed and not always for the better.  The last shop was called 'Katy K's' whose logo looked like a caricature of Katy Perry.  A typical western shop with cowboy boots and rodeo outfits, it reminded me of a Kansas relative's western store but not as classy as his, at least from what I remember.  The aforementioned shops, especially Local Honey have intriguing start-up stories but of course that tends to be the case for most small businesses.  Also learned that a high school classmate of mine recently bought his own local business back home so congrats to him, I love that people who take risks also gain a lot more both in experience and life in general.

Finished up the day by walking 3 miles to Borders where we stayed and read books such as "When God Writes Your Love Story" and "Set Apart Femininity". Later came home to find a new housemate had moved in but have yet to really meet him, seems like a nice guy.  Had frozen pizza for dinner, walked to Wendy's for a frosty, and called it a day.
