Rejuvenated...slightly

Woke up super early this morning (read: 7AM) for no apparent reason but to wake up.  Weird.  I haven't updated for yesterday yet so I'll be doing that first...in detail...many details...

(Me and Rach en flight to Charlotte, N.C.)

So In the beginning there was Syracuse at 6:20AM at which point Rachel had to pack some of her belongings into my efficiently packed bag as hers was 8lbs over the baggage limit.  Enjoyed a nice 2 hr. flight to Charlotte, N.C. where we spent as much time walking through the terminal as the Israelite's through the desert (not really but seriously it took a while).  Finally got on the plane from Charlotte to Nashville but some lady had already taken the window seat I was assigned!  Seat "A" means window, seat "C" means aisle, duh! Psh what gives?? But she was reading a book in Greek and was speaking in Greek on a cell phone before we took off and then ordered tomato juice and kept rubbing her head so I figured it was best to just let it go.  Got into Nashville International Airport and heard my first southern, "Y'all" it was awesome.

(from the plane window not sure where exactly)

Took a taxi straight to our new house where we are subletting a room from a Vanderbilt University student.  Our housemate is a grad student as well studying molecular biology (don't I feel like a slacker).  He is super nice and very helpful with directions which later we would not follow and as such become completely ridiculously lost.

So after we dropped our stuff off we decided to go on a walk to a local grocery store but took a wrong turn at the first place we turned and ended up on a 3 mile walk with many turn arounds and "wait, no it's this way"'s.  Met a guy named Wingnut who also didn't know anything but decided to walk with us for a while looking for his piano concert (with a name like that, good luck buddy).  Exhausted and slightly dehydrated we ended up at Taco Mamacitas a classy little Mexican food restaurant where everyone was happy, air conditioned, and hydrated.  So we joined them.  He (the waiter) brought us our slightly small gyros and came back in approx 5 minutes and literally said, "I was coming by to see how you were liking you're gyros but uh...I guess that's a yes." We had inhaled them they were so good and we were so exhausted.
We came back to our house and then decided to get some necessities from Walmart.  Unfortunately the only way for us to get to a Walmart was to take the public bus.  Instead of taking the one our housemate Michael suggested we thought we'd save time by taking a different one.  Once we were on we ended up on a committed trip that stopped every 10 feet and the map Rachel had grabbed was completely En Espanol...helpful.  We finally get there after an hour and it wasn't even a Super Center Walmart!  We climbed back on the bus with our many bags of things taking up the entire back row of the bus.  Sometime along the 2 hours back a lady got on and threw-up on herself...and her seat...and the sidewalk.  Then the bus had to stop alongside the road so a little boy could jump off and pee in the bushes.

Finally we got back to the bus station and had to wait another 45 minutes for our original bus to reappear.  When we got on that one we missed our stop the first time around so the second time we got off a couple streets off and had to walk through ghetto area with our many bags of groceries.  Thank goodness we didn't get that gallon of milk because it would not have survived what ended up being a a total 4 hr bus ride.

Took a shower, sent some emails, and fell asleep at 9:30ish.  That was my first day in Nashville.
