Long Island with Molly

I spent this past week on Long Island visiting Molly, my oldest sister.  While I was there I visited her school, NYIT where she is studying to be a D.O. (yeah, she's that smart!).  We also visited the beach together in which my tan only got darker and Molly's burn only got worse.

<<My first LIVE crab, woot woot!>>

After staying the week and having a blast I attempted to go home which involved a lot of panic attacks as per my usual planning skills. I didn't realize when the train actually left in the morning and so I didn't finish packing until pretty late and then of course we caught all the red lights. We made the train in due time, however, and it was my first experience on the train.
<<The train has arrived!>>

<<A promising and reassuring poster that greeted me at the door of the train>>

<<The very 'pleasant' ticket lady>>

From the train we arrived at Penn Station to board a double decker coach bus to take me back to Syracuse.  Unfortunately I did not look up where outside of Penn Station this bus would be picking me up because, well, I've never been to Penn Station and assumed it would be right outside the uh door.  As it turns out, there are many many many doors for Penn Station and thus we walked around the entire block before we found the bus.  Said goodbye to Molly and spent the bus next to a nice girl on her way to Toronto and across the aisle from a lady whose carry-on item ended up being her 5 yr old son haha but he slept the whole time so no bother.  All in all I made it home in one piece, safe and sound.

Camp is So Over

Camp ended this past Sunday and suddenly I have...freedom? What? So now I have to get back into the habit of taking pictures of everything and then blogging to you guys about it in a semi-sarcastic manner.  After camp I hitched a ride with some of the girls on a coach bus to Long Island under the condition that I distribute water bottles and jolly ranchers to them along the way.  Done and done.  Unfortunately I ended up packing my cellphone somewhere in my luggage (aka bottom of my sleeping bag) and thus had difficulty calling my sister Molly, before I got to Long Island, on the way to Long Island, or once I got to Long Island.  Thus began an awkward adventure in which I begged a cellphone off a random guy, called home to get my sister's number from my Dad who was a little freaked out for me, and then called my sister who didn't pick up.  I think my exact voicemail said, "Hello, it's me um I'm in the parking lot of Macy's here in Long Island, come pick me up whenever you can".  Having made my oh-so-well-thought-out traveling plans I sat down on the sidewalk curb surrounded by my luggage and began reading a book for school. As I sat there on the curb parents welcoming more children/buses continued to run and scream around me with all of their yappy purse dogs and rain clouds started to get bigger so I start eyeing nearby unattended pillows/pillowcases to cover my luggage with...and suddenly Molly appears! Yay, I'm rescued! Thus I survived my way to Long Island and am now staying in my sister's posh apartment. Stay tuned for my next post in which I include photos!

In the Home Stretch

Since arriving here on June 28th after a 4.5 hour car ride, it has been an odd experience with heaps of stress and moments of awkward solitude but now that we're in the last 10 days of camp, I feel like we've all settled into a comfortable atmosphere (although the food is still fried to excessive amounts).  I've met so many interesting people including other counselors who have all come from places like Las Vegas, Manchester, Whales, Texas, California, Toronto, Ireland, and Scotland. The kids have been a challenge to understand their habits of finishing a snack and dropping the wrapper/core/stick wherever they happen to be but they've been fun to hang out with...most of the time.  I'm still figuring out the life lessons I supposedly learned here and throughout the entire summer but I have learned a lot and have gained some of that motivation I was looking for.

Just watched the latest Jersey Shore episode though not in its entirety b/c people have a lovely habit of changing channels here faster than Pauly D can spin it.  At the risk of sounding a little obsessive, Angelina should just get off the show, no one likes her or wants her there and Sammi is a little bit of a control freak, just sayin'.

Last thought of the day, my friend from high school Tonya Sims is currently on a study abroad trip to India and has started a blog of her travels.  Her photos are beautiful and I am absolutely inspired to visit the place myself in due time. Interested? Check it out at updatesfromindia.blogspot.com
